In South-western Uganda just on the east of western (Albertan) African rift valley, 25 kilometers from Kasese town, find “mountain of the moon” one of Africa’s most beautiful mountain areas. It was baptized Rwenzori from a local dialect word “Ruwenzururu” which means “Rain-maker” or “Cloud King.” At 996sqkm (120km long-65km wide) it’s the highest mountain range in Africa at 5,109m marking the highest altitude of Uganda.

The Park has glaciers, snowfields, waterfalls, and lakes, all in different vegetation strata; Montane forest, Bamboo forest, Moorland and Snow, all vary according to changes in altitude; the higher you go the more you define the pearl of Africa. Although Rwenzori is known predominantly for its challenging hiking, the park has many species that are endemic to the Albertine Rift system; 177 species of birds, 37 species of butterfly, and 08 primate species. Today with three birders from Belgium over 50 species of birds have been checked, seen and heard in only six hours.
