The collaboration between the Uganda National Farmers’ Federation (UNFF) and Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) has been hailed as a game-changer in the fight against poverty in Uganda.
Dick Kamuganga, President of UNFF, has applauded the 11-year partnership, citing the transformation of Ugandan farmers from subsistence farming to commercialized agriculture as a major achievement.
The partnership has promoted market-oriented production, a key driver of the Parish Development Model’s success in eradicating poverty.
According to Kamuganga, the lessons learnt from the partnership include proper identification, mobilization, organization, and empowerment of Ugandan farmers.
“We are like 4.5 million households in the country in subsistence farming; through OWC this number has reduced from 69% to 39%,” Kamuganga said.
Such intervention has essentially increased the production of the subsistence farmer, leading to improved household incomes.
The Uganda National Farmers Federation, established in 1992, is one of the largest farmers’ umbrella organizations in the country, with over 170 members nationwide.
The ongoing collaboration with OWC is expected to further promote market-oriented production, aligning farmers’ output with market demands.
This shift towards more commercial farming practices has enabled farmers to earn better prices for their produce, enhancing their household incomes.
The partnership has improved agricultural practices by providing access to better inputs and technologies, leading to increased agricultural output and higher earnings for farmers.
This has directly contributed to improved household incomes, underscoring the positive impact of the UNFF-OWC partnership on Uganda’s agricultural sector.
As Operation Wealth Creation continues to play a crucial role in transforming Uganda’s agricultural sector, the partnership with UNFF serves as a shining example of what can be achieved through collaboration and a shared vision for prosperity.
