The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) will determine the next course of action for Eva Mbabazi, arrested in connection with the mysterious death of Dr. Spire Kiggundu, founder of Henrob Hospital.
Eva Mbabazi was arrested on Monday after CCTV surveillance confirmed her presence at Dream Guest House, where Dr. Kiggundu’s body was discovered.
“She is detained at Kajjansi Police Division,” said SSP Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson. “She has been cooperative and provided information, which we have submitted to the State Attorney for legal advice.”
Circumstances of Dr. Kiggundu’s Death
Dr. Kiggundu’s body was found inside Dream Guest House in Kajjansi Town Council, with concerns raised by his family after he failed to return home and his phone numbers were unreachable.
The family collaborated with police to trace his last movements using CCTV cameras installed on major roads in Kampala.
A postmortem examination indicated that Dr. Kiggundu died from heart-related complications due to low blood supply.
Family’s Response
“We ask the public to disregard claims that he was killed,” said Dr. Luyimbazi, a member of the deceased’s family. “The postmortem, which we witnessed, showed he died from a heart condition.”
Dr. Jimmy Spire Ssentongo, a renowned cartoonist and brother to the deceased, also affirmed the natural cause of death in a statement on his X account.
Investigation and Arrest
CCTV footage from Dream Guest House showed a woman entering the premises shortly after Dr. Kiggundu’s arrival and leaving about an hour later through the same back entrance.
The woman was identified as Eva Mbabazi, prompting her arrest as the last known person seen with the deceased.
“We could not conclude investigations without arresting Mbabazi since she was the last person seen with him,” Onyango explained.
Awaiting DPP’s Decision
The police await guidance from the State Attorney, under the DPP’s office, on whether any charges should be filed against Mbabazi.
Mbabazi has been cooperative with investigators, providing a detailed account of her interactions with Dr. Kiggundu.
