President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has donated a brand new double cabin pickup and a total of UGX 20 million to two Bunyoro Muslim leaders, Sheikh Rajab Mugenyi, the newly appointed District Kadhi of Bunyoro, and his predecessor, Sheikh Musa Babanja.
The donation was officially handed over during a grand consecration ceremony held on July 11, 2025, at Bwikya Hill, a historic Islamic site in Hoima Oil City.
President Museveni was represented by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
In her speech delivered on behalf of the President, Prime Minister Nabbanja congratulated Sheikh Mugenyi and urged him to lead with unity and guide the Muslim community to actively participate in government programs aimed at transforming lives.
She emphasized that Muslims, like all Ugandans, must be fully included in initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM), EMYOGA, and others.
“I urge the people of Bunyoro, especially our Muslim brothers and sisters, to embrace government programs without hesitation,” Nabbanja said.
“These are opportunities meant for everyone, and they can uplift entire communities if embraced collectively.”
She encouraged the community not to be misled by opposition politics, warning that rejecting government efforts could result in missing out on critical opportunities for development and poverty eradication.
“Let’s unite behind President Museveni as we head into the 2026 general elections,” she added.
“He has consistently demonstrated a vision for Uganda’s progress, and it is important that all regions, including Bunyoro, stay on board.”
During the event, President Museveni also appreciated the outgoing Kadhi, Sheikh Musa Babanja, for his years of dedicated service in promoting Islam and peace in Bunyoro.
He too received UGX 10 million as a token of appreciation.
The Second Deputy Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, who represented the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, urged Muslims to remain united and promote peaceful coexistence.
He noted that harmony across religious and cultural lines is essential for development.
The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, religious leaders from different faiths, cultural leaders, and Kadhis from neighboring districts.
The strong turnout signaled a message of interfaith unity and the importance of inclusive national development.
The Prime Minister also unveiled a ceremonial tunic that will now become the official attire for District Kadhis during public functions, making Sheikh Mugenyi the first to wear it.
The event not only marked a religious transition but also emphasized the need for inclusive development, where all communities regardless of religion are encouraged to engage with and benefit from government efforts.
