In a powerful show of inter-regional backing, NRM leaders and delegates from across Northern Uganda have thrown their support behind Calvin Echodu’s campaign for the Eastern Uganda Vice Chairperson seat on the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).
The endorsement event took place at 10:00 a.m. at Acholi Inn and brought together party delegates from Nwoya, Amuru, Gulu District, Gulu City East and West, and Omoro.
The meeting opened with welcoming remarks from Olok Christine, who stood in for Madam Aber Gifta, NRM Chairperson for Gulu City.
She extended a warm reception to Mr. Echodu and praised the delegates for turning out in large numbers and for their unwavering commitment to the party’s mission.
As he took the floor, Calvin Echodu began by expressing sincere appreciation to the Acholi subregion’s leaders for the warm hospitality and their steady efforts in advancing the NRM cause.
He lauded their active participation in the party’s recent internal elections, which he described as a testament to the resilience and loyalty found at the grassroots.
Although his candidature is for Eastern Uganda, Echodu emphasized that his leadership vision embraces a national perspective.
“The strength of our party lies in the unity and wisdom we share across all regions,” he stated.
He further noted that the NRM’s future depends on the collective efforts of Ugandans working across regional lines for a common purpose.
Central to his message was the call to revitalize grassroots party structures.
He pledged to nurture young leaders, encourage inclusive participation, and build a responsive political culture that remains active year-round—not just during electoral seasons.
“Our party must not be a party of only elections, but a living movement that listens, includes, and transforms lives,” Echodu emphasized.
He spoke about the strategic importance of cooperation between Eastern Uganda and other regions, linking regional harmony to broader national progress in areas such as trade, infrastructure, and peace building.
“When Eastern Uganda is stable and productive, the ripple effect touches Northern Uganda and the whole country,” he pointed out.
Highlighting his passion for youth empowerment, Echodu promised to expand opportunities for young people by investing in skills development, ideological orientation, and startup capital through SACCOS and all party youth leagues.
He connected these goals to President Museveni’s wealth creation agenda, particularly the Parish Development Model (PDM), and urged local leaders to take proactive roles in implementing it.
In a forward-looking proposal, Echodu recommended creating regional dialogue forums to deepen youth engagement and foster intergenerational idea exchange.
“If we don’t build the future generation, we are weakening the foundation of our Movement,” he cautioned.
Turning to internal party management, he called for more efficient mechanisms to resolve conflicts, especially during primary elections.
He argued that justice and transparency must underpin party unity.
“The greatest loyalty to our party is to speak truth and build harmony where confusion threatens our unity,” he said.
As he closed his speech, Echodu reassured the delegates that his leadership, if elected, would be inclusive, accessible, and grounded in national service.
“I may come from Soroti in the East, but I walk with the heart of a Ugandan who believes that no region is greater than the other, and together we rise,” he declared.
His address, rich in optimism and unity, resonated with those in attendance.
“The future belongs to those who prepare for it today. Together, let us prepare an NRM that will not just win elections, but win hearts, transform lives, and build a lasting legacy,” Echodu concluded.
The gathering ended with unanimous endorsement from district chairpersons representing Acholi West, further strengthening Echodu’s candidacy.
The event marked a pivotal moment in his campaign, demonstrating not only his cross-regional appeal but also a renewed spirit of unity within the NRM ahead of the 2026 elections.
With growing support from Northern Uganda, Calvin Echodu is fast emerging as a symbol of inclusive leadership and a key player in shaping the party’s future direction.
