The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) has firmly denied allegations made by the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) concerning the reported arrest of two journalists in Mukono.
The denial was issued in a statement released on Monday, July 22, 2025, in response to a UJA announcement made on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
According to the UJA, journalists Eric Yiga and Ivan Kimbowa had allegedly been detained over a story they published regarding an inspector of schools at the Mukono Municipality Council.
However, SH-ACU stated that although an official investigation is ongoing in Mukono District, it has no connection to the named journalists.
“While SH-ACU is conducting an investigation in Mukono District, the subject of the investigation neither relates to the mentioned journalists nor has it led to their arrest or detention,” the statement reads in part.
The Unit called upon UJA to provide any verifiable details to substantiate its claims and assist in establishing the origin of the misinformation.
SH-ACU further extended gratitude to the Uganda Journalists Association and the broader media fraternity for their ongoing contributions in the fight against corruption.
It commended the media for its critical role in uncovering corrupt practices and reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with journalists to promote transparency.
“This clarification aims to promote transparency and strengthen collaboration between anti-corruption agencies and the media, an essential partnership in fostering accountability across the country,” the Unit emphasized.
SH-ACU concluded by reiterating its support for constructive engagement with the media as a means to enhance national integrity and trust in public institutions.
