The Busoga Kingdom is in celebration following the joyous news that His Royal Highness William Gabula Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, and his wife, Her Royal Highness Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi, have been blessed with twins.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, by Eng. Patrick Batumbya, the Chairperson of the historic royal wedding organizing committee.
The royal couple welcomed two baby boys, Prince William Ethan Nadiope and Prince Arnold Eli Nadiope, bringing pride and excitement not only to the royal family but also to the people of Busoga and Uganda at large.
This moment marks another milestone in the young reign of Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV, who married Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi on November 18, 2023.
Their wedding, held at Christ Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja, was the first royal wedding in Busoga since 1956 and drew national attention, with thousands in attendance and millions following across media platforms.
The royal union was celebrated as a rebirth of Busoga’s cultural pride, and the birth of twins just under two years later has deepened this narrative of renewal within the kingdom.
Eng. Batumbya, who played a central role in organizing the royal wedding, described the arrival of the princes as a blessing not only for the royal household but for the kingdom at large.
“The Kyabazinga and Inhebantu have given us a reason to celebrate again. These princes are not only children of the royal family but also children of Busoga. Their birth brings joy, pride, and hope to all Basoga,” he said.
The joyous news also comes as the kingdom prepares for the Kyabazinga’s upcoming coronation celebrations, a season of cultural festivities expected to showcase Busoga’s heritage and the monarch’s development agenda.
With the arrival of twin princes ahead of the celebrations, many Basoga are describing 2025 as a year of double blessings, symbolizing both leadership continuity and the strengthening of the royal lineage.
Owek. Dr. Joseph Muvawala, the Kingdom’s Katukiro (Prime Minister), said the timing carries deep meaning for the institution and its people.
“The Kyabazinga institution thrives on heritage and legacy. With the arrival of these royal heirs, Busoga’s identity is even more secure, and our traditions are renewed with a new generation of leaders,” Muvawala said.
Historians have highlighted the symbolic meaning of the twins’ birth in the broader cultural context of Uganda.
Dr. Sarah Namusoke, a cultural historian at Makerere University, explained that in many Ugandan traditions, twins are considered a blessing of prosperity and abundance.
“In Busoga, twins are received with great joy because they are believed to bring balance and harmony. The royal family’s blessing of twin sons will be remembered as a historic moment not just for Busoga, but for Uganda’s cultural heritage,” she noted.
What the Birth of Twins Means in Busoga Culture
In Busoga and many other Ugandan traditions, twins are considered a special gift, believed to bring prosperity, harmony, and spiritual balance to the family and community.
Families blessed with twins often hold special ceremonies to welcome them, symbolizing abundance and divine favor.
The fact that the Kyabazinga and Inhebantu have received twins amplifies the cultural importance of this birth, with many viewing it as a public sign of good fortune for the entire kingdom.
Ordinary citizens across the kingdom have also expressed joy.
In Jinja town, market vendor Margaret Nabirye said she felt a personal connection to the news.
“When the Kyabazinga marries, it feels like all of us have married. Now that he has children, it is as if all of us have been blessed with children. These twins belong to every Musoga, whether rich or poor,” Nabirye said.
Youth groups have also joined in the celebration, calling the birth of royal heirs a motivation for young people to remain proud of their cultural identity.
Derrick Kintu, a student leader from Iganga, said the news had already created excitement among his peers.
“The Kyabazinga is young, his wife is young, and now they have children. This makes the monarchy more relatable to us as youth. It shows that leadership is not just about history, but about family, values, and vision for the future,” he said.
The Kyabazinga and Inhebantu have, since their marriage, taken on active roles in promoting community development, education, and cultural programs across Busoga.
Their involvement in initiatives to empower youth, preserve traditions, and promote unity has won them admiration among Basoga and beyond.
The addition of royal heirs is therefore seen not only as a private family joy but also as a public moment of inspiration for a kingdom that continues to rebuild its cultural identity in modern Uganda.
