Doreen Moraa Moracha, a Kenyan young lady living with HIV/AIDS is hopeful of getting into marriage and having kids in the near future.
“I hope to get married some day and get kids too,” she told Viusasa News in an interview about her love-life as a person who lives with the virus.
The 27-year old beauty was born by a discordant couple and she has lived with the virus the entire life. Her mother is positive while her father is negative with a family of four kids-one unfortunately passed on.
Despite the fact that the journey has not been very smooth, she has finally accepted her condition and now living a happy life-though intertwined by daily drug-taking schedules.
“I take one Efavirenez at night and one Lamivudine in the morning. The only time I remember I’m HIV positive is at 9am and 9pm every day-when I take my drugs. I actually go everywhere with my medicines and take them when the time comes regardless of where I’m. I won’t let such a small virus hinder me from living my life.”
She came to know her status at 8, four years shy of the time her doctors thought she could die, and she was greatly affected.
What Moraa badly wanted at that time was cure. She pushed her parents to do anything in a bid to get rid of the virus-including up to visiting the infamous Mzee Loliondo in Tanzania in search of cure.
But when the dust settled, the pretty lady decided to stick to her ARVs as she accepts her condition-a thing which has positively changed her life.
She however admits that most men are generally shy of approaching her. “I know men who are attracted to me for the wrong reasons and those who want to genuinely date me. So I just choose to ignore some of them but I disclose my status to the persistent ones. I know 90% will obviously take off,” she says.
So far, at 27, she has dated four men-all of whom are negative. And she is optimistic that she will eventually tie the knot with a man for a beautiful family.
“I have dated four men since when I was 19. My love-life was (and is still) complete. I enjoyed being with them-one at a time. In fact, my status had nothing to do with the end of our relationships because I can’t get into any relationship without disclosing my status. So they knew,” she explains.
