Police Families to Benefit from Free Education Initiative
By Fredrick Siminyu
The Uganda Police Force is pioneering an innovative education initiative, aiming to provide free formal education to the children and dependents of its officers.
This groundbreaking plan seeks to establish a comprehensive education system, including schools and vocational institutes, at the regional level.
SSP Nakityo Jane, head of the Formal Education Department, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it will not only benefit the officers’ families but also contribute to the overall development of the country.
“We are working on establishing a comprehensive database of dependents to support proper planning and resource development, both human and non-human, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports and other stakeholders,” she explained.
The police force currently operates 19 schools, with plans to expand and improve the education system.
The Mbale Police Wanyela Primary School serves as a shining example of the impact of these efforts, with an impressive performance in the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
The initiative also aims to encourage women officers to pursue training opportunities, recognizing the crucial role education plays in career growth.
SSP Nakityo urged officers to support this initiative by applying for teaching positions and enrolling their children and dependents in these schools.
This pioneering education initiative demonstrates the Uganda Police Force’s commitment to empowering police families and ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.
By providing access to quality education, the force is investing in the development of its officers’ dependents, ultimately contributing to the country’s overall progress.
