Uganda’s 62nd Independence Day Celebrations Unite Diaspora Community in London

The Uganda High Commission in London recently hosted the 62nd Independence Day celebrations, bringing together over 400 participants from the UK government, Ugandan diaspora, friends of Uganda, and the Diplomatic Corps.
The event, themed “A Recommitment to Secure and Fortify our Destiny,” provided a platform for attendees to reflect on Uganda’s socio-economic transformation journey.
Uganda’s High Commissioner to the UK, H.E. Nimisha Madhvani, highlighted the significant achievements made under the leadership of H.E. President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM Government.
She emphasized the importance of strengthening commercial and economic ties between Uganda and the United Kingdom for mutual benefit.
Madhvani encouraged Ugandans in the diaspora to take advantage of investment opportunities in various sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, oil and gas, ICT, pharmaceuticals, and industrial parks, to contribute to national development.
The celebration was attended by prominent figures, including Baroness Virginia from the UK Parliament and Stanley Johnson, father of the former UK Prime Minister.
Moses Mulimira, THET Diaspora Engagement Advisor and Uganda UK Health Alliance lead person, acknowledged Uganda’s rich heritage and expressed gratitude to the High Commissioner for organizing the event.
The celebration showcased the strong cordial relationship between the UK and Uganda.
The Uganda UK Health Alliance has been instrumental in promoting global health collaboration between Uganda and the UK .
The organization has supported various projects, including the Strengthening Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care at Kawempe National Referral Hospital and the Bridge Program for research and implementation of findings through global health partnerships .
