People Power iconic leader also Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has finally agreed to meet President Yoweri Museveni in Canada, The Public Lens can exclusively report.
A highly placed source in the echelons of Bobi Wine, who is also a close confidant of the youthful presidential hopeful, intimated to this paper that Bobi has eventually caved in to Museveni’s overtures, and that the gist of the meeting is power transition where Bobi would play a pivotal role. However, the source couldn’t disclose as to whether Museveni would be willing to surrender power to Bobi.
Bobi’s latest decision to meet Museveni comes hot on the heels of yet another proposed meeting with Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, where the latter recently posted on his social media page saying he was more open and willing to meet his “friend Kyagulanyi.”
The Public Lens understands that the proposed meeting between Bobi and Museveni has been in the offing for the last three months, being brokered by some powerful businessmen and the Catholic Church through one of the Bishops in Buganda.
From the time Bobi announced his intentions to contest the presidency, some politicians and influential individuals have reached out to the legislator to bring him to the talking table with Museveni. It’s understood that the motives of these brokers, some of whom belong to Opposition, has been hinged on monetary benefits.
“People have come to Mzee [Museveni] assuring him that they can bring Bobi to talk. In return, they would be facilitated for this purpose and end up disappearing. So, we don’t know if the group of new brokers pushing this meeting in Canada are genuine or are just money schemers,” said a state house official who didn’t want to be named.
In the planned meeting, however, Bobi suggested Canada as the meeting place since Canada is a neutral country. Among the conditions Bobi placed for this meeting, the two men should meet in a hotel with no cameras or recording gadgets as Bobi is wary that Museveni may direct his team to leak pictures or voice recordings for propaganda value.
This newspaper tried to get in touch with Bobi Wine to get his comments on this development, but he wouldn’t pick his known cell-phone number. The People Power spokesman Joel Ssenyonyi couldn’t give us a ready answer since, according to him, he wasn’t aware of any planned meeting between Bobi and Museveni.
“If there was any such meeting, I would be in the know. Right now I can’t comment on anything of which I don’t have a clue about,” said Ssenyonyi dismissively.
In the event that this said meeting takes place, it would lend credence to allegations by some school of thought to the effect that Bobi is a “Museveni project.” Others have been peddling speculation of Bobi being compromised by regime agents to abandon his presidential ambitions.
