Three individuals have been apprehended in Kasese District for allegedly impersonating security operatives from State House.
The suspects, identified as Godwin Byabagambi, 42, from Mbarara City, Richard Twesigye, 48, from Ntungamo District, and Isaac Baluke, 47, from Kasese, were arrested by Bwera Division police following a tip-off from vigilant residents.
The police, led by SP Tai Ramadhan, the division police commander, took the suspects into custody after they failed to provide satisfactory identification.
During the arrest, the police impounded a motor vehicle with registration number UBK 573D, which was found to contain a sharp knife and several stamps.
According to Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East police spokesperson, the suspects have been charged with impersonation.
Tumushime urged members of the public who may have been affected by the suspects’ actions to come forward and report to the police, saying, “Police are calling upon our members of the public who could have experienced or have been affected by the actions of these suspects to reach out to us…”
This recent arrest is not an isolated incident, as two men were arrested in January for masquerading as security officers and extorting money from the public.
The suspects allegedly used the names of security personnel to promise assistance in accessing various government officials, further highlighting the need for vigilance and reporting of such incidents.
