President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilizers to intensify grassroots engagement, saying their role is critical in ensuring that government programs reach ordinary citizens and lift them out of poverty.
The President made the remarks today at State House, Entebbe, where he officially flagged off a team of mobilizers drawn from across the country. The delegation was led by Hajat Amina Mukalazi.
“It seems you are clear about the vision and strategy of NRM because that’s always the problem—people don’t know how to get out of poverty,” Museveni told the group.
He commended the mobilizers for their dedication and assured them of his full support as they embark on sensitization campaigns across Uganda.
As the National Chairman of the NRM party, Museveni stressed that mobilization is a vital tool in helping society understand the pathway to economic independence.
“While we have been telling people that there are four sectors of the economy that help us to get out of poverty which include commercial agriculture, manufacturing and artisanship, services and ICT, you are right to talk about mobilization regarding how the society can get out of poverty,” he added.
The President encouraged the mobilizers not only to focus on spreading information about wealth creation programs but also to take an active role in combating corruption.
He warned that misuse of public resources continues to undermine government efforts to improve livelihoods.
Museveni also pledged to support the mobilizers’ Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) initiative, describing it as a practical way of boosting their incomes and enabling them to lead by example in socio-economic empowerment.
During the meeting, the mobilizers presented a Memorandum of Understanding to the President. In their document, they expressed gratitude to the NRM National Chairman for his leadership and commitment to steering Uganda towards socio-economic transformation.
