President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated his commitment to supporting Uganda’s scientists as the country works to achieve a science-led economy.
The President met with a team of scientists and members of the innovation support ecosystem at State House Entebbe.
The delegation was led by Dr. Monica Musenero, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The team updated the President on the progress being made toward the National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s vision of building a science-driven modern economy.
They reported advancements in several key areas, including the manufacturing of electric vehicles, the production of diagnostic kits, the standardization of natural medicines, and new developments in machine-building technologies.
President Museveni praised the scientists for, in his words, “finally waking up” to their central role in driving national transformation.
He assured them that government will continue to provide support to strengthen their innovations and outputs.
On the subject of human capital, the President challenged the team to stop attributing setbacks to colonial history.
He emphasized that Uganda must instead focus on harnessing traditional knowledge, mechanizing it, and standardizing it to create wealth and prosperity.
Dr. Musenero expressed appreciation to the President for his consistent backing of science, technology, and innovation initiatives.
She said her ministry and the wider team are on the right path in applying a science-led approach to Uganda’s development.
