Chairman of Kashari South Youth Emyooga Sacco in Mbarara district, Victor Twinomugisha, has been arrested by State House Anti-Corruption Unit and made to appear before Mbarara Grade One Magistrate, Alex Baguma, charged with mismanagement of Emyooga Funds.
While in the dock during the court proceedings, Twinomugisha who hails from Bwizibwera upper cell, Bwizibwera-Rutooma town council in Mbarara district and as well the current Sub County youth councilor for Rubaya maintained his innocence in connection with the missing ten million shillings.
“I didn’t steal but I used the money.” he adamantly stated,
Despite his denial, a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf. The prosecution informed court that investigations into the matter were still ongoing; suggesting a complex legal process ahead.
Magistrate Alex Baguma, presiding over the case remanded him to Kyamugorani prisons until March 20. Baguma explained the legal procedure to Twinomugisha, affirming his right to apply for bail during his time in custody. This marked a significant development in the legal proceedings, with the accused awaiting further hearings and potential decisions regarding bail.
The involvement of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in the greater Ankore region highlighted a broader effort to address concerns surrounding the misuse of Emyooga Sacco funds by local leaders.
