Member of Parliament for Jinja East constituency, Paul Mwiru, has revealed why he left Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party and joined the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).
He says, he had to shift to ANT so that he can use both the defiance method of FDC governance Plus the one of organization opposed by FDC, so as to transform this country into a new Uganda since both methods are not in conflict.
Addressing Journalists in Jinja on July 19, Hon Mwiru said he is no longer a member of FDC party and called upon the public to accept his decision because whatever he does, he does it for the good of Ugandans and that what he is going to do in ANT is not different from what FDC does but on a different political platform.
“To build a new Uganda we must employ both methods of defiance and organization. FDC party decided to employ the beating method of defiance, but we have included the method of organization which FDC says has no space for, yet the two methods have no conflict,” he said
Recently, both legislators, Paul Mwiru and Gerald Karuhanga of Ntungamo Municipality officially joined ANT and the news was officially unveiled during a news conference in Kampala where both were in attendance.
In his speech, Mwiru thanked ANT for accepting to receive him, and said he had become part of ANT officially by choice and will.
“The big task ahead requires an organized group with a conscious and consistent way to make a contribution and turn around this country. And this is what I have come to do” he said.
Karuhanga said he had always wanted to be part of ANT because of its formation and structural framework which constitute the very critical values that Uganda needs.
He went ahead and said if it was not for the fact that he does not want to contravene the constitution of Uganda, certainly he would have joined at the launch of ANT.
“I know we still face many challenges as a nation. But I’m very confident that the team we’ve identified with has people who cherish values and believe that the nation must be put first before self,” he said.
He as well explained that he had joined the organization because of its tenets of transparency, equity, honesty, unity and justice.
Karuhanga affirmed that he strongly believes ANT will give equitable opportunities and resources to all Ugandans and will not tolerate nepotism as is the case with the current government.
“To the younger generation, we are faced with a burden and we are lucky to be around at this time. It’s not by mistake that we are the ones with the energies to transform our county. This isn’t the time to cool off but to marshal all our energies to turn around our country,” Karuhanga said.
The Acting National Coordinator for ANT, Alice Alaso welcomed the two MPs and said there is a lot to do including mobilization to ensure the party delivers the change in governance.
“It gives us big joy to witness your homecoming. We are so excited to have you here. You’ve been part and parcel of this process,” Alaso said.
