National Resistance Movement (NRM) has constituted teams of NRM party leaders to brief district leaders and NRM flag-bearers on the campaign program of the party’s presidential flag-bearer.
The newly constituted teams charged with responsibility of promoting the campaign program of the party presidential flag-bearer are composed of senior party leaders comprising mainly of members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and the National Secretariat.
According to NRM Secretary General Justine Lumumba, the teams will execute an advance role of briefing district leaders and NRM flag-bearers at zonal level where they will meet and sensitize the leaders on how the presidential candidate’s strategic campaign meetings will be handled.
“The NRM flag-bearers which the advance teams will meet include Members of Parliament, City Mayors, City Division Chairpersons and councilors, District Chairpersons and councilors, as well as Sub-county Chairpersons and Councilors,” Said Lumumba.
She added that during the briefings, Chairpersons and Executive Committee members of the District Local Government, the Chairperson and Councilors of the City Local Governments, the Chairperson and Councilors of Municipal Local Governments, and Chairpersons and Councilors of Sub county Lower Local Government; will be expected to attend.
The advance teams will brief Flag-bearers on the presidential candidate’s zone campaign program, the strategic zonal meetings with NRM leaders and the Radio campaign address, as well as key highlights of the 2021-2026 NRM manifesto.
The flag-bearers will also be briefed on the nature of the scientific campaigns as prescribed by the Electoral Commission, categories of NRM leaders from each district invited to meet the presidential candidate, plus logistical arrangements for the strategic campaign meetings.
According to the party leadership – CEC, Covid -19 testing will be a pre-requisite for accessing President Museveni’s strategic campaign meetings.
The advance teams will also brief party flag-bearers on how campaign materials like posters for the presidential candidate, campaign banners and flyers; will be delivered.
“At the end of these meetings, the leader of each advance team will formally handover the party flags to each of the flag-bearers bracing for the 2021 general elections,” Lumumba added.
She has called on volunteer mobilizer groups and organizations to work under close supervision of NRM District Executive Committees, in order to adhere to the strict guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission.
The NRM secretariat has tasked party members to immediately embark on door-to-door campaigns in order to increase chances of winning the 2021 general elections.
Lumumba says the Covid -19 pandemic makes it difficult to hold mass campaigns that were initially critical in reaching out to voters.
She has also tasked security operatives to “arrest NRM members found breaching Covid -19 guidelines during campaigns.”
President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the NRM National Chairman, was on Monday, 02 November 2020, duly nominated by the Electoral Commission, to contest as a presidential candidate in the 2021 general elections.
He also launched the NRM 2021-2026 manifesto and had his presidential election campaign program made public, with just two months to the national elections.
