Recruitment of NIRA Officers For National ID Renewal Starts

National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) Executive Director, Rosemary Kisembo, has announced that her office on Tuesday kicked off the exercise of receiving applications from persons who are interested in joinining as registrars and assistants ahead of the National Identity cards mass registration exercise.
Kisembo clarified that individuals interested in the various positions advertised will be able to apply via the website, for the process of renewal and mass registration slated to kick off on June 1st this year.
“I needed to make the announcement and then you start (applying). We are going to make available two videos to help those who want to apply,” Ms Kisembo said during a weekly press briefing at police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on Monday.
Last year, NIRA said during the exercise of renewing and registration, the authority would hire 11,000 temporary workers to facilitate the exercise.
NIRA’s manager of registration and operation at NIRA, Mr Edwin Tukamuhebwa said then that part of the officers’ job description will be to enter and assess submitted data.
Required qualifications
To qualify to apply for these positions, one must be a Ugandan and must possess a valid National Identity Card. More so, people aged 18 years and above are encouraged to apply. The other requirements are attached in the job description on the NIRA website.
It is also informed that all successful candidates will earn around 500,000 shillings per month for over 10 months, the period this exercise is expected to take place. These remarks were made by Kisembo Rosemary during the joint weekly security briefing at the Police headquarters at Naguru in Kampala today.

Uganda started National Identity Cards in 2014 with a 10-year life span, with the first batch of those issued in the run-up to the 2016 elections expected to expire in May this year.
While appearing before the parliament earlier this month, the State Minister for Internal Affairs, Gen David Muhoozi defended the renewal of the cards based on the idea that features, including one’s physical ones, as well as those of security degenerate with time.
Gen. Muhoozi was responding to queries raised by MPs that the renewal exercise be done smoothly following previous glitches applicants encountered during and after the registration, including errors and delayed issuance of the cards.
According to Section 54 of the Registration of Persons Act (ROPA) 2015, very Ugandan above 16 years old is eligible to receive a National Identity Card. The registration exercise with NIRA is compulsory for all Ugandan citizens residing within and outside the country.
