Ugx23 billion Approved by Parliament to Boost Upcoming CHAN, AFCON Preparations

Parliament has approved the reallocation of Shs23 billion from the Ministry of Education and Sports to the National Council of Sports in preparation for hosting the AFCON and CHAN tournaments.
This move by Parliament highlights the growing importance placed on sports development in Uganda.
According to Chris Obore, the spokesperson for parliament, this strategic transfer of funds prioritizes critical infrastructure development projects essential for hosting the prestigious sporting events.
“This approval signifies Parliament’s unwavering commitment to supporting Ugandan sports and athletes,” said Obore.
Obore further highlighted the significance of the 2027 tournaments, stating, “The CHAN and AFCON games present a golden opportunity to showcase Uganda’s sporting talent on the international stage. These allocated funds will ensure we are well-prepared to host a world-class tournament.”
He went on to say that the reallocated funds will be directed towards vital infrastructure projects as Uganda prepares to host the AFCON and CHAN in 2027.
According to the ministry, the investment will focus on improving existing sports facilities and ensuring they meet the rigorous standards required for hosting international sporting events.
This could involve stadium upgrades, training facility improvements, and potentially even the construction of new infrastructure.
