President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended his congratulations to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anita Annet Among, after she swept to victory in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections.
The Speaker clinched the position of Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) in a heated contest against former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
Out of 12,582 votes cast during the delegates’ lining-up elections at Kololo Independence Grounds on Tuesday night, Ms Among secured 11,680 while Ms Kadaga managed 902.
The overwhelming margin affirmed the strong backing Among enjoys within the ruling party.
In a message shared on his official X account, President Museveni praised her win, highlighting the faith that party members have in her ability to lead.
“I congratulate the Rt. Hon. Anita Among upon being elected the Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) for the NRM,” Museveni stated.
Following the announcement, Speaker Among used her own X platform to express gratitude in an emotional message, describing the result as a victory made possible by the trust of the delegates.
“Dear delegates, I am truly grateful for your love and support, not just today but throughout the campaign trail. With deep humility, I accept this landslide victory,” Among said.
She also extended an olive branch to her opponent, acknowledging Kadaga’s contributions to both the NRM and Uganda at large.
“I want to express my gratitude to our mother, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga, for running an excellent campaign and her significant contributions to the party and our country. We will rely on her for advice and guidance in the days ahead,” she added.
Turning her focus to the road ahead, Among urged party members to consolidate their efforts in preparing for the 2026 elections.
“Let us return to work, mobilise for our Party leader and flag bearers, and ensure a resounding victory for the mighty NRM. God bless you, and God bless our great NRM,” she declared.
The Speaker’s decisive victory not only cements her authority within Parliament but also strengthens her influence inside the NRM’s top decision-making organ, giving her a central role in shaping the party’s strategy ahead of the next general elections.
