The Nwoya Woman Member of Parliament Adong Lily finds herself in an awkward position after intelligence reaching President Yoweri Museveni to the effect that the legislator has been working against the NRM interests in Nwoya District and Acholi in general.
It’s worth noting that at the beginning of the year, President Museveni went to commission the Bukono Agro factory in Nwoya Distict, and in his address, he mentioned Adong Lily as among the bad people derailing development in the region. Speaking in loose Luo, the President said, “In Nyara marac”, meaning “you are my bad daughter.”
That statement wasn’t a surprise considering the trend at which the woman MP has been criticising the President and NRM in Nwoya and Acholi. At the height of the campaign to lift the presidential age limits from the Constitution, Adong Lily was among the leading crusaders against this constitutional amendment, and she was reportedly seen going around communities and radios telling people of how “Museveni was interested in grabbing land from the local communities using this age lift amendment.”
There are further reports indicating that the MP, who subscribes to the ruling NRM party, has been in bed with the Opposition, funding and supporting opposition activities in the Greater North.
According to the intelligence briefs which this newspaper is privy to, it’s alleged that Adong Lily is working with Oppostion diehards to promote anti-NRM interests.
The same intelligence briefs indicate that Adong Lily has held a number of secret meetings in Nwoya and she assured her supporters that she has concluded her come-back plan as the NRM flag-bearer which includes orchestrating the sacking of all the party registrars who are against their agenda. She reportedly boasts of maximum support from some high-ranking party officials.
Some of the people who attended her recent meeting are Onyota the LCII Koch Goma, Aluc (lily’s treasurer), Edisa Lado, Min Kuyeng, Omony Ostein, Obote, Otii, Min Johnie, Opiyo Simon (NRM Sub county chairman Koch Goma), Apele, Ongom Michael (NRM chairman Alero Sub County), Nyerere Lungulu and Okulu John Bosco (LCIII chairman Koch Goma).
She is now reported to be splashing cash to NRM party structures to confuse them, a move which is in blatant violation of the party’s electoral rules and regulations since the party hasn’t released the roadmap. “Anyone who involves in premature campaigns is contravening the party’s laws because the party hasn’t permitted anyone to campaign yet. The road map is not yet out. Those people risk being disqualified if they don’t stop especially meeting the party structures,” said Dr Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission chairman after receiving reports of politicians holding covert mobilisation campaigns.
Attempts by this reporter to reach Adong Lily on her known mobile phone number were future as her phone was switched off by the time of publishing this story.
