Members of parliament who originate from the Busoga region have come out in the open and declared their commitment to join the Speaker of Parliament the Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga in the struggle to retain her position as the Vice National Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement Central Executive Committee (CEC).
Robert Ntende, the Member of Parliament for Bunya South constituency and Moses Muwanika Walyomu of Kagoma County are some of the legislators from the Busoga region who have declared to rally support for the speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.
“We have vowed to work toe and nail to solicit support for her and ensure that she maintains her position as the Vice national chairperson of the NRM CEC.” Ntende declared.
Legislator Ntende revealed that Speaker Kadaga has support even from the opposition Members of Parliament and said if she continues with her membership on the NRM Central Executive Committee, she will lobby for more representation for women empowerment and positions especially for the Busoga region.
He wondered as to where some people get the guts to shamelessly contest against Kadaga who is very popular in the NRM plus a successful political career spanning over three decades with several leadership positions in major international bodies including the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).
“It is on record that under her stewardship as the Speaker of Parliament she hosted the International parliamentary Conference in 2019,” he said.
Moses Muwanika Walyomu of Kagoma County says whereas other regions are supporting the Speaker to retain the seat, there are still some disgruntled persons within the Busoga region who are against the move
.
It is disgusting to see that whereas other regions are in support of Kadaga we still have some myopic disgruntled people in the Busoga region who are fighting her,” he said.
Currently serving as the NRM party second National Chair Person (female), Kadaga is seeking to extend her mandate by another five years.
The position so far has two contestants who include the Speaker Alitwala Kadaga and Pasisi Namuganza, the State Minister for Lands.
