Museveni Unveils Expanded Industrialisation and Wealth-Creation Blueprint as He Launches Bunyoro Campaign Trail in Kibaale District
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, has opened a new phase of his 2026 campaign trail in the Bunyoro Sub-region with a comprehensive pledge to deepen industrialisation, strengthen infrastructure, and accelerate household wealth creation across Kibaale District.

His address at the Buyanja Secondary School playgrounds marked the formal launch of his Bunyoro campaign program, drawing thousands of residents eager to hear his development vision for the region.

President Museveni announced a major plan to establish an additional industrial park in Kibaale District to complement the proposed Kabalega Industrial Park, which is earmarked for petroleum-related manufacturing once oil production begins.

He explained that the new Kibaale Industrial Park would anchor agro-processing, light manufacturing, and value-addition projects, positioning the district as a key emerging industrial hub in the greater Bunyoro region.

He tasked district leaders to begin immediate preparations for the project, stating clearly that they must “secure at least one square mile of land” to host the proposed industrial zone.

He directed the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabanja, to ensure follow-up on several outstanding service delivery concerns raised by local leaders, including “the resolution of a land dispute involving a forest reserve” that has affected community access and long-term development planning.

President Museveni further revealed that government was set to begin the long-awaited upgrade of the Mpara–Kyegegwa–Hapuyo–Karuguza road, confirming that the tarmacking works “would commence soon” under the broader NRM strategy to modernise national transport corridors.

He highlighted that improved road networks would facilitate the movement of goods from farms to markets and support the industrial parks planned for the region.

Turning to wealth creation, Gen. Museveni questioned residents on whether they were making full use of seedlings and agricultural inputs distributed through Operation Wealth Creation (OWC).

He referenced the success stories in Karamoja, where the program has resulted in “thriving fruit gardens, coffee plantations and dairy projects,” urging Kibaale residents to adopt a similarly disciplined approach.

He encouraged households to take up the NRM’s 4-Acre Model and other income-generating projects such as dairy production, poultry, horticulture, or coffee farming, emphasising that every home must secure its own prosperity.

He explained the crucial distinction between development and personal income, warning residents not to be “distracted by the expanding infrastructure in the region at the expense of improving incomes at home.”

President Museveni also pledged enhanced government support for value addition as a pathway to job creation, revealing plans to expand processing facilities for agricultural produce such as coffee, maize, fruits, cassava, and dairy.

He outlined broad opportunities for young people in commercial agriculture, artisanship, manufacturing, and the services sector, while praising the progress made under the Presidential Zonal Industrial Skilling Hubs program, which has trained thousands of youths in practical trades.

He applauded the Local Defence Unit (LDU) and residents of Kibaale for their vigilance in countering security threats, particularly those linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

He assured the public that national security remains a top priority, stressing that the NRM government has successfully delivered “peace and stability” as the foundation upon which development, wealth creation, and job generation are built.

He reiterated that Bunyoro’s ongoing transformation—spanning roads, electricity access, education, and industrial planning—is a result of deliberate government investment sustained over decades.

All these remarks were delivered during the official launch of the NRM presidential campaign trail in the Bunyoro Sub-region at the Buyanja Secondary School playgrounds in Kibaale District, marking a renewed push to entrench economic transformation and prosperity in one of Uganda’s fastest-growing regions.
