Uganda Government Bridges Infrastructure Gap in Bukedea and Butebo Districts

The Ministry of Works and Transport has partnered with Mount Elgon Labor-Based Training Center (MELTC) to construct the Onyamalugai and Komuge-Kadesok-Kakoro bridge.
This strategic bridge connects Bukedea and Butebo districts, facilitating economic growth and development.
According to Principle Executive Engineer Ssentamu Hassan of MELTC, the bridge’s design features a box culvert structure with three cells, each measuring 4m x 3m.
Additionally, six triple barrel relief culverts with internal diameters of 1.2m will be installed along the swamp to prevent overflow.
“The bridge is being constructed in a box culvert design with a three-cell structure of 4m x 3m and six triple barrel relief culverts…to provide resistance overflow of swamp water,” Eng. Ssentamu explained.
Upon completion, the bridge will streamline goods and services movement between Bukedea and Butebo.
This infrastructure development aims to boost economic growth in the region.
Historically, the two districts faced isolation after heavy rains in 2021 destroyed drainage structures.
The construction project addresses this challenge, ensuring enhanced connectivity and opportunities.
By investing in this bridge, the government supports regional development and community growth.
