President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Masters of Ceremonies (MCs) in Busoga to become ambassadors of wealth creation, contributing to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
He made this call through his special assistant, Haji Faruk Kirunda, at a gathering of Busoga ceremony MCs at Iganga District’s Sikezy Hotel.
The Busoga Cultural and Events Speakers Association (BUSUSA), led by Meddy Dhakaba, unites over 250 MCs, promoting professionalism and discipline in their field.
Museveni emphasized using their platforms to popularize government programs like Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, aimed at fighting poverty and creating wealth.
“Use ceremonies to sensitize people on wealth creation. When people create wealth, they’ll organize parties you’ll host; when poor, they won’t,” Museveni said.
He urged MCs to stay united, preach peace and stability, and change local mindsets for positive development.
Museveni also criticized leaders, especially from the National Resistance Movement (NRM), for not utilizing media to mobilize and sensitize Ugandans on government achievements and programs.
“You let enemies of the government use media to cause instability,” he cautioned.
At the event, Museveni donated Shs10 million to the MCs’ SACCO.
Iganga District Woman MP Sauda Kauma Alibawo thanked Museveni for his leadership, enabling Ugandans to exercise rights like freedom of speech.
“We thank you for enabling Ugandans to exercise rights through the 1995 National Constitution,” she said.
However, she cautioned Ugandans to utilize freedom of speech wisely and maintain national peace.
Other attendees included Iganga District NRM Chairperson Hajji Abubakar Walubi and Minister of Information for Busoga Michael Kifubangabo.
