A new chapter in Uganda’s reproductive healthcare has been written with the successful delivery of a second baby conceived through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) at Mulago Specialized Women and Neonatal Hospital.
The baby girl, born healthy and weighing 3.6 kilograms, is a testament to the hospital’s expanding capacity to offer advanced fertility services within the public health system.
Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Health, confirmed the milestone and expressed her excitement at the progress being made.
“A milestone worth celebrating as we continue expanding access to advanced specialized services to the country,” Dr. Atwine shared in a congratulatory message to the baby’s parents posted on X.
The hospital introduced IVF services in August 2024, and since then, it has confirmed 11 pregnancies through the procedure. This recent birth signals not only a medical success but also a significant social achievement, offering renewed hope to couples across Uganda struggling with infertility.
The arrival of the second IVF baby at Mulago reflects growing confidence in the country’s public health infrastructure and its commitment to delivering equitable reproductive care.
As more families gain access to IVF through affordable public services, the dream of parenthood is becoming a reality for many who once thought it out of reach.
