The Manafwa District NRM Leadership has endorsed a new candidate, Annet Musubikha, a former government social worker, to challenge embattled former Minister Goretti Kitutu in the upcoming NRM primaries.
The endorsement was announced on Tuesday, 22nd April, 2025, by Charles Walibwa Peke, the Manafwa District NRM Chairperson.
Walibwa cited Kitutu’s involvement in an iron sheet scandal as a reason for the party’s decision to front a new candidate.
The party is ready to support Musibukha in the primaries and general elections, just as they have done in the last two elections.
Musibukha has expressed her readiness to lead the district if elected.
She has promised to focus on wealth creation, improving household incomes, and enhancing healthcare.
Musibukha also criticized the current woman MP’s involvement in scandals.
Gorret Kitutu, the incumbent Woman MP and former Minister for Karamoja Affairs, was unavailable for comment.
Another candidate, Rose Mutonyi, is also vying for the same position.
The endorsement of Musibukha by the NRM leadership in Manafwa District is seen as a significant development in the upcoming elections.
Musibukha’s campaign promises and criticisms of Kitutu’s actions are likely to shape the electoral contest.
The NRM primaries will determine the party’s candidate for the general elections.
The outcome of the elections will have implications for the district’s leadership and development.
